Manage question properties

Question properties are used to assign additional metadata to questions. This metadata can be used in several ways:
- It is possible to filter in (large) question banks on the properties to quickly find the relevant questions.
- It is possible to dynamically select questions in test matrices based on these question properties.
- It is possible to create feedback reports which can show for a candidate how the candidate has done for all questions with the relevant question property.
An example of the above possibilities is the use of a taxonomy. This taxonomy can be divided up using the question properties, so that a part of the taxonomy is assigned to each question. You can then filter per question property, which shows an overview for this component.
Another example is using levels. The questions can be linked to the same subject, but with a different property that can be filtered on. Think of level 1, level 2, and so on.
A question property can be created for an entire environment, but can also be set per question bank. This can be useful if different departments, programs or faculties work in the same environment, but do not want to use each other's question banks directly.
Create question properties
Follow the steps below to create a new property:
- At the top right of the screen there is a button with 'Settings'. Move the mouse over this and then click on 'Manage question properties'.
- In the screen that follows, click on 'Add new property'.
- Fill in the fields and choose at 'Type' which type of property should be used. There is a choice of 'Number', 'Date', 'Text' and 'List of choice'. When the type 'Choice list' is chosen, the choices can be added by clicking on the 'Add choice' button. There is an explanation in the text block at the bottom of the page.
- Indicate whether the template property is limited to certain question banks and roles. It is possible to enter more than one. If no limitation is specified, the relevant question property can be selected in all question banks and by all roles.
- Then indicate whether this property can be used in the filters, whether this property must be assigned, whether only one value can be used and/or whether it is a system property.
- Then click on 'Save'.
With the types 'Number', 'Date' and 'Text' it is possible to indicate the value of the property itself to the test matrix.
Example:
Question property name is 'Mandatory test' and the type is 'text'. For each test matrix, the choice can then be made to assign the matrix property 'Mandatory test' and a value can then be entered.
Another type is the type 'List of choice'. Select this to add some choices to the list.
Example:
Property name is 'Mandatory test' and type 'picklist'. An option to enter a number of choices will then appear. Example: 'Yes', 'No' and 'Only in academic year 1'. With a blueprint, a choice can then be made for the property 'Mandatory test', but now it is not possible to type in a value yourself. You can then choose from a list with the three choices that were already entered. In this example you can choose from 'Yes', 'No' and/or 'Only in academic year 1'.
