Article Summary

Description

RemindoTest supports the use of TurnItIn's software. Using this link, a plagiarism check can be performed within RemindoToets. When a candidate has completed a test, this plagiarism check can be used to check for similarities with texts in a database. TurnItIn displays which part of the given answer is possibly plagiarised, along with the total percentage of matches. TurnItIn also has a setting to exclude specific sources from the plagiarism check. Please refer to TurnItIn's available manuals to adjust this.

TurnItIn's overview is generated outside RemindoToets. An agreement with TurnItIn must be in place before it can be used within RemindoTest.

If a test does not contain open or upload questions, TurnItIn cannot be used.

Settings

Enable Turnitin

Before Turnitin can be used, it must be enabled within the RemindoToets acceptance environment. This can be set up by an administrator.

  1. Log in to the RemindoToets collection environment.
  2. In the top right of the screen, go to Administration and click Settings in the menu that appears.
  3. In the screen that follows, the plagiarism control option is at the very bottom. Select Turnitin here. Next, enter the Turnitin Endpoint and the Turnitin API key. These details should be requested from Turnitin if they are unknown.

Use Turnitin on a test

  1. Turnitin must be enabled at every test time. When scheduling a new test, the plagiarism control option is shown at the bottom. Under 'Plagiarism control on open and upload questions', select 'Yes, via Turnitin' from the menu. If that option is not there, Turnitin still needs to be set up. See the explanation above on how to do that.

  2. When a candidate has completed the test, go to the overview for plagiarism control. To do this, click on the Analysis icon of the test moment from the planning or navigate to Results > Analyses. In the latter case, select the desired test moment in the screen that follows. This way, only the results of this test moment are shown. Then an overview of the scores and results appears. A column with a percentage of matches is also displayed, in which the report with matches can be opened via a button.

  3. When the graph icon is clicked from the various result pages to view the details of a candidate's result, the matches option is also displayed there. This is displayed on the left-hand side in the menu. When clicked, the similarity indicator appears with a percentage. This is the part of the test that matches texts in Turnitin's database. Below this is a PDF, which is the generated report. Click on this to open the full report. Below that again is the log, which gives an overview of the report status from Turnitin.

  4. While reviewing a test with open questions, it is possible to open the plagiarism control. In the current status bar, the button 'Similarities: ... % (all open questions)'. Clicking on this will open the screen containing the report of the plagiarism check.

Attention!

It may take a few moments for Turnitin to make the report available. If the page does not load immediately, please wait a moment.
